Highlandtown Art Walk & Nocturne: OCT 4

Join us for the September Art Walk with over a dozen venues featuring live music, art demos, drink specials, tasty eats and more! Explore our unique array of shops, galleries, landmarks and murals on a self-guided walking tour.

Tonight’s theme is “Nocturne” and we’ll be celebrating with the first ever HIGHLANDTOWN NOCTURNE: Live Plein Air Art Competition!

Artist of all disciplines, join us in Highlandtown to create art outside during the Highlandtown First Friday Art Walk!
Registration Required ($30). All ages welcome.
All art forms are welcome. Work must be completed on-site between 5pm and 11pm and be viewable for judging the next day. Works will be on view and available for sale through October at Night Owl Gallery.

Join us the next morning (Sat. Oct 5, 10-11am) for a celebratory brunch where juror Gina Caruso (Creative Alliance, Executive Director) will award prizes! A portion of the registration fee will go to supporting the Highlandtown Arts and Entertainment District.

Join us as we host a nocturne featuring several local artists throughout the neighborhood live-painting outside after dark. Artists will have from dusk until 11pm to create an original piece of art from observation. Keep an eye on their progress as you stroll!
The evening will be followed up Saturday morning with a bagel brunch as juror Gina Caruso (Creative Alliance, Executive Director) awards prizes. All are welcome and collectors are encouraged to connect with artists. All art will be for sale.

    In conjunction with this month’s theme “NOCTURNE,” Guerrilla Theatre Front presents: Michael Panzarotto, Master of the Macabre shares his favourite spine tingling poems and stories. Starting at 6:30pm, readings with be throughout the evening as guests join is in the pop-up space.

    GTF presents: “Doc Wietzel’s Traveling Curiosities Show”
    A collection of bizarre oddities and infamous curiosities.

Highlandtown Art Walk Writer-in-Residence

The writer-in-residence for October, November and December 2019 is Laura Hazan.
Laura Hazan is a librarian with the Enoch Pratt Free Library where she runs the bimonthly Light Street Writers Exchange. She completed her first novel, Little Boxes, and is seeking representation for publication. She attended the “Your Novel Year” program at Arizona State University’s Piper Writing Center where she was instructed and mentored by best-selling novelists Michael Stackpole and Jean Rabe, among others. In addition, her work has been published in Natural Bridge, Kirkwood Patch, Sauce Magazine, and Not A Pipe Publishing #yearofpublishingwomen anthology Strongly Worded Women available at Amazon.com and other booksellers. Laura is a resident of Baltimore and lives with her son, her husband and their one-eyed dog, Boh.
