Night Owl Gallery is pleased to welcome featured artist Rosa Leff for the month of April for a gallery take-over. The Philadelphia born, Baltimore based Leff is a master of the paper-cut whose works “push the boundaries of the two-dimensional world. …It’s upon close inspection that the separation of the cut image from it’s backing creates a landscape of shadows that makes the work reside in neither the two nor three-dimensional realm.” ( -Evan Paul Laudenslager, theartblog.org)
Many of the pieces can take up to 80-100 hours to complete. These painstakingly detailed works draw from age-old traditions and are yet deeply personal as they are inspired by childhood memories and the daily life of the artist. Opening Reception Friday April 5, 5 – 9 pm Refreshments served.

Springsteen is thrilled to present Women’s History Museum Biennale: Poupées Gonflabes, the inaugural exhibition at their newest location. In Women’s History Museum Biennale: Poupées Gonflabes, Mattie Barringer and Amanda McGowan propose a realm of possibility through an artificial boutique. A semi-abandoned storefront of mysterious origin features overlapping symbols of fashion retail, department stores, beautification, cinema palaces, peep shows, and womanish commoditization in all its forms. The show is accompanied by a 24 person group show presenting the work of their frequent collaborators.

Highlandtown Art Walk Writer-in-Residence
The writer-in-residence for April, May and June 2019 will be Kerry Graham.
This January Kerry launched a weekly collaborative newsletter with the intention of creating a space where people of diverse backgrounds, with various worldviews, could acknowledge the number of experiences and reactions we have in common. She is also in the process of writing a book: a collection of vignettes (actual moments crafted into micro or flash narratives) about the students to whom she teaches high school English.
“Sometimes, I describe myself as being hopefully devoted to Baltimore. My entire professional career, I’ve served some of Baltimore’s most marginalized populations: the HIV+, homeless, and its youth. While I have the fortune of being able to enjoy much of Baltimore’s charm, I care about hundreds of people who have been traumatized by Baltimore. I recognize that to be in this position–someone who gets to experience some of the best of Baltimore, but also understands the depths of its worst–is relatively uncommon, which is why I am committed to writing, and story sharing, and using language as a way to unite those who might otherwise never have found one another. I believe I would have been a writer regardless of where I live, but Baltimore has made my writing meaningful.” –Kerry Graham
