In 2001, Maryland became one of the first states to create a designation program for arts or cultural districts. Now, there are 29 arts districts statewide – and four in Baltimore City!

Located in Southeast Baltimore, the Highlandtown Arts & Entertainment District is the city’s largest district, host to many murals, art galleries, makers workshops, monthly Art Walks, and annual parades. It was originally designated in 2003 and is operated by the Southeast Community Development Corporation.
